Endocarditis Vs Pericarditis

Endocarditis is an infection of the inner lining of the heart chambers and valves, often caused by bacteria, fungi, or other pathogens entering the bloodstream and adhering to damaged areas of the heart. This condition can lead to severe complications, including heart valve damage, heart failure, and systemic embolism, where fragments of the infected material can travel to other parts of the body. Symptoms may include fever, chills, night sweats, fatigue, and heart murmur, and prompt diagnosis and treatment are crucial for improving outcomes.

Pericarditis is the inflammation of the pericardium, the fibrous sac surrounding the heart, which can be triggered by infections, autoimmune diseases, or other underlying medical conditions. Patients with pericarditis may experience sharp chest pain that worsens with deep breathing or lying down, along with fever, weakness, and palpitations. While many cases resolve with conservative treatment such as anti-inflammatory medications, recurrent or chronic pericarditis may require more aggressive interventions, including corticosteroids or even surgical procedures.
